Five summers back, two girls climbed to a strange tree during the festival and watched two balls of light drift through the branches. Neither of them could explain what she saw that night. Now Saki throws fastballs for the school softball team, and Mai would rather fill a sketchbook with star charts than actually look up at the sky. Then two tiny spirits show up. Flappy comes from the world of flowers, Choppy from the world of birds, and both of them are begging for help. The Seven Fountains have gone dry. Dark Autumn is swallowing their homes, and the only ones who can push back are these two ordinary students, who suddenly have to fight in outfits they never asked for. Saki and Mai have to learn to move as one, and they have about five years of catching up to do. What happens when the thing you saw as a kid turns out to have been waiting for you all along?
