The Decepticons are gone. Earth is quiet, and most of the Autobots have pulled out. A handful stay behind anyway, just in case, and they don't stay as robots. Metalhawk and his crew fold themselves into Pretender shells that make them look human, walk among us, order coffee, wait. Then the waiting pays off in the worst way. Decepticon Pretenders show up wearing the shapes of demons and monsters, and something called Devil Z is pulling their strings from somewhere nobody can point to. Both sides start recruiting people. Not soldiers. Humans, ordinary ones, who can merge with the robots to become Godmasters, fighters with enormous power running through them. Kids get pulled into this too, as Junior Headmasters. It stops being a war between two armies of machines and turns into something messier, where the person next to you might be a shell, a recruit, or a monster wearing a friendly face. Devil Z has not shown himself. Nobody knows what he actually wants or why the Decepticons are listening to him. And if the only way to fight this is to keep putting human bodies on the line, how long before the Autobots' new generation runs out of people willing to say yes?
