A prophecy says the girl will end the world on her sixteenth birthday. So they took her out to the woods and left her there. Pacifica survives, raised in a sleepy village by Shannon, who fights with a sword, and Raquel, who works magic. Quiet life. Bread, chores, a family that loves her. Then word gets out she is still breathing. Now the church of the goddess Mauser wants her dead, and so do nobles, and so do ordinary farmers who have heard what she is supposed to become. Shannon and Raquel run with her, one step ahead of assassins, sleeping in barns, crossing borders that do not want them. Every stranger could be the one holding the knife. Pacifica does not feel like a poison that ends the world. She feels like a little sister who is tired and hungry. But the birthday keeps coming closer, and the story everyone believes about her keeps getting stranger, and the world itself is not what it looks like. Is one girl's life worth the end of everything?
