A prehistoric hunter carves his way through a world that wants him dead. He is chasing something he barely understands, and he is not the only one. Somewhere out there, a bird with burning feathers bleeds a liquid that can patch up a dying body, and everyone from emperors to scavengers wants a taste of it. Then the story jumps. A different century, a different face, the same hunger. A scientist in a far-off future, a cursed monk, a boy running from his own bloodline. Each of them hears the same rumor: kill the Phoenix and you get to live forever. Nobody ever asks what happens to the world after the bird is gone. Across five arcs, from stone axes to cold laboratories, the Phoenix just watches. It has seen all of this before. Men rise, men rot, and the cycle starts over with a new name and a new knife. So who exactly is the monster here: the creature that refuses to die, or the people who keep sharpening their blades for it?
