A man with a leopard's head wakes up in the woods with no past. He can't pry the mask off his face. The only thing left in his skull is a name: Guin. Then two kids come crashing through the trees, a prince and a princess whose kingdom just fell to the Mongaul army, and he stops wondering who he is. He starts moving. The twins thought teleporting out of the palace would save them. It drops them straight into Rudwood Forest, where Mongaul soldiers are already combing the brush. Guin cuts them down without breaking a sweat. Now he has to keep two royal children alive across deserts and badlands, and somewhere in all this he's supposed to get his memories back. Except the more he fights, the more it looks like his past isn't something he lost. It's something that was taken. He can crush a hundred trained soldiers. That's the easy part. The hard part is the desert tribes with their magic, the old armies that have been killing each other for centuries and now have to stand together, and a plan he's clearly at the center of but can't see yet. Everyone wants something from him. Nobody will say what. What exactly was Guin before someone put that mask on him?
