Yuri just got into college. She kissed the boy she grew up with, and for one perfect evening everything feels settled. Then puddles start rippling when she walks past. Water in a glass trembles if her fingers get close. She tells herself it is nothing. One night on a quiet street, a puddle swells and long pale hands shoot out of it. They grab her ankles and yank her under. She gasps, chokes, and wakes up in a village that should not exist anymore, thousands of years in the past. Armed soldiers drag her to a palace where she is meant to die as an offering. A prince named Kail steps in and stops the execution, but his protection comes with its own cage. The Hittite court smiles at her while sharpening knives behind closed doors, and every ally she makes could be reporting to someone else. She has to survive long enough to find a way home. That is the plan, anyway, until the plan starts to feel less like escape and more like leaving something behind. So what happens when the door back finally opens, and she is not sure she wants to walk through it?
