On a slow afternoon in the savannah, Serval pounces on a stranger who smells like nothing she has ever met. The girl has no ears, no tail, no claws, and no memory. She cannot even say what animal she is. Serval names her Kaban and decides they will find the answer together, so the two of them head for the library on the far side of Japari Park. The road there is long and full of distractions. They cross deserts and forests, meet a bus full of singing otters, stop to help whoever is stuck or hungry or lost. Everywhere they go, the Friends greet them like old neighbors, and Kaban solves problems with her hands instead of her instincts. It feels like a summer trip that might never end. Then Japari Park starts showing its teeth. The cheerful paths lead to places nobody talks about, and the questions get heavier: why Kaban remembers nothing, why some parts of the map are simply gone. Kaban came looking for her own name. What if the park's answer is worse than not knowing?
