A girl named Urano spends every spare minute buried in books, and she gets far enough to earn a librarian's certificate. Then an earthquake hits, a shelf comes down on her, and as she dies she asks for one thing: let me keep reading. She wakes up as Myne, a sickly five year old in a town where hardly anyone can read and a single book costs more than her family makes in a year. So she goes looking for something, anything, with pages. Nothing. Scribes copy every volume by hand for noble patrons, and commoners like her will never touch one. That is when it stops being a wish and turns into a plan. Paper, ink, binding, the whole chain has to be built from nothing, and Myne is a small child with a weak body and no money. Her family thinks she is odd. Merchants think she is a joke. She keeps going anyway, one stubborn step at a time. Can a five year old with nothing but memories of another life really drag books into a town that has never wanted them?
