A thousand years after a few people first started moving things with their minds, the world has settled into quiet little villages where nobody remembers how the old machines worked. Saki Watanabe is the last of her friends to wake up her power, and she finally joins them at Sage Academy. Then a classmate everyone calls weak simply vanishes. No announcement. No search party. Nobody says the girl's name again. On the walk home, Saki and her four friends run into creatures like oversized moles, Monster Rats, who bow to anyone with the power as if they were gods. Saki helps one of them out, and it thanks her like she saved its life. That should be the strange part of the day. Instead her friend group, Maria, Shun, Satoru and Mamoru, stumble onto a robot out past the village edge with an archive inside it, and the history it holds does not match anything they were taught. The five of them are banished for what they saw, their abilities sealed, left to survive in the forest on their own. Now they are walking through a world that wants them gone, chasing answers the adults buried on purpose. What exactly did the people with power do to everyone else, and why does the town act like the Monster Rats never happened?
