A taxi sits stuck in traffic, so Katsumi Liqueur steps out and cuts through a back alley. She is in Tokyo to see her mother, who is lying in a hospital bed. What she walks into instead is a monster, right there between the buildings, and two policewomen already trading blows with it. Something about the thing feels familiar. She has seen it before. She just cannot place where. Then she meets their chief, Rally Cheyenne, and that is when it gets strange. Rally looks at her like she has been waiting for this exact moment. They have never met. Katsumi is sure of it. The squad wants her help hunting the creature down, and Katsumi, who has spent her whole life refusing to believe in magic, wants nothing to do with any of it. So why does the monster seem to know her? And why does Rally act like Katsumi's answer was decided long before she ever got off that plane?
