Spring in the countryside. Cherry blossoms drift across the platform as Yu Narukami steps off the train at Yasoinaba Station, ready to start over at his uncle's house and a new school. The town looks sleepy and harmless. Then the wind snatches a letter from his hands, and a girl named Marie catches it before it disappears down the street. That is the first time he sees her. Here is the strange part. Marie turns up again inside the Velvet Room, a place that should not exist outside his dreams, and Margaret asks him to do something simple: show this girl the outside world. She has no memories of her own. Meanwhile, bodies keep turning up around town, and a channel that only airs at midnight keeps calling to him and his friends. Yu is just trying to get through classes and hang out at the mall, but every quiet afternoon seems to bend toward something darker. Who is Marie really, and what does she have to do with the murders no one can explain?
