Shiina spends her summer at her grandparents' place, and one day she pulls something strange out of the sea. A round little thing, weird to look at, and somehow they click right away. She calls it Hoshimaru. The Round Star. She feeds it, plays with it, shows it off, and when summer ends she goes back to school with a new best friend waiting at home. Then she notices other kids her age walking around with creatures just like hers. At first that feels like a lucky coincidence. It does not stay lucky for long. Some of those kids are not gentle with what they have, and some of the creatures are nothing like Hoshimaru. Bad things start happening, to animals, to people, and the ones responsible are children. Shiina is still just a girl with a pet she loves. So what does she do when the same bond she treasures turns out to be something other kids use to hurt and to kill?
