Keiichi Maebara moves to a tiny farming village in the summer of 1983 and within days he is one of the gang: Rena, Mion, Satoko, Rika. He is the only boy in the group, and honestly, life feels pretty good. School, games, the smell of the rice fields. Then he hears about a murder. People have been dying in Hinamizawa for years now. Disappearing too. Every death seems tied to the annual festival and to Oyashiro, the village's patron god. Keiichi starts asking questions, and his friends go quiet. Not confused quiet. Careful quiet. The kind of silence that makes you wonder what someone is protecting. Now he cannot stop watching them. A smile that lasts a second too long. A conversation that stops the moment he walks in. The village looks the same, but he sees it differently, and something in his own head starts to come loose. So what exactly happened during those past festivals, and why does everyone in Hinamizawa seem to already know?
