On Yietta, the colonists have spent generations scooping up exotic creatures from the liquid-gas oceans, and after all that work they are finally about to clear their debt to the Galactic Federation. Then a girl in trouble runs straight into the arms of Tita, seventeen and already captain of the hunting ship Cha Cha Maru. Bad luck, wrong place, no time to think. Tita pulls her aboard anyway. The girl is Elysse, sixteen, daughter of a scientist who found a military use for electromagnetic fields. Government agents killed him. Now half the army wants her back because she is carrying a password, one that unlocks a gravity-thinning weapon. What starts as a rescue turns into a planetwide game of cat and mouse, except this mouse has a crew, a ship, and guns. Tita could have handed Elysse over and gone back to catching pets for intergalactic shops. Instead she picked a fight with professional killers, and they are closing in from every side. Can a bunch of animal trappers really outrun an entire army?
