Eighty years of quiet. Humans and Zentraedi share the same planet now, old grudges buried, no wars left to fight. Then ships nobody recognizes drop out of the dark and start bombing Earth all over again. Hibiki Kanzaki, a rookie reporter for SNN, grabs a camera and heads straight for the shooting. He wants a story big enough to make his name. What he gets is a boarding trip onto an alien vessel, where he stumbles onto Ishtar: a girl whose singing bends the Zentraedi to the Marduk's will. He takes her home. On Earth, Ishtar learns what a song can be when it isn't a weapon: food, laughter, people living instead of fighting. Hibiki and ace pilot Silvie Gena try to turn that small discovery into something that can stop a fleet. It might not be enough. The Marduk leader Ingues has his own plans for the planet, and Ishtar is still the key he came for. Can a reporter with a camera and two women, one of them born to be a weapon, really talk an invading army out of destroying everything?
