In the 24th century, deep space travel is just a thing people do. Far out at the edge of everything sits Watcher's Nest, a portal powered by an inflation hole drive, one of the first outposts humanity ever planted out there. A handful of young women are stationed at that portal, still cadets, still finishing the training that will make them Seraphim Squadron pilots. Then something called GHOUL shows up and starts hitting the place. No warning, no explanation, just an unknown force with a name and a grudge nobody can name. The cadets get tossed straight into the middle of it. Not a drill, not a simulation, the real thing, and they are not ready. That is the problem. The brass want elite pilots, the cadets want to survive long enough to become them, and whatever GHOUL is does not seem interested in waiting around for graduation day. Every quiet moment they get is spent wondering if the next attack lands before their final exam does. So who or what is GHOUL, and why does it want a portal that sits at the far end of nowhere?
