Kun Oota is four years old and owns the whole house. His parents, the dog Yukko, every corner of the yard: all his. Then his baby sister Mirai comes home from the hospital, and the house stops being his. Mom and Dad only have eyes for the tiny screaming bundle in the crib. Kun throws tantrums. He sulks. Nothing works. Then the garden behind the house turns strange. One moment it is just grass and a tree, the next Kun is standing face to face with a teenage girl who calls herself Mirai. His sister. Grown up. She has come back from a future he cannot imagine, and she is not the only visitor. Relatives he has never met, versions of his own parents when they were young and foolish, a whole chain of people he belongs to without knowing it, all waiting behind that fence. He is still four. He still wants his mother to himself. But now he has to walk through his own family's history, past and future both, and figure out what he is supposed to be to this girl who stole his life before she could even speak. A big brother? A rival? Something else entirely? And if the garden can show him who his sister will become, what does it want from him in return?
