Subaru Natsuki walks out of a convenience store with a bag of snacks and a dead phone. Then the world flips. One second he is on a normal street, the next he is standing in some unfamiliar city with no idea who dragged him there or why. Nobody explains anything. Before he can even get his bearings, a gang of thugs jumps him and he gets pounded into the dirt. A silver-haired girl with a fluffy cat-like creature shows up and pulls him out of it. Her name is Satella, she is chasing whoever stole her insignia, and Subaru, grateful and a little smitten, offers to help her look. They find the thing. Minutes later, both of them are dead. Killed right there in the dark, no warning, nothing. And then Subaru opens his eyes, and he is back at the start. Same street, same thugs, same girl he has never met before. Time just rewound itself. Every time he dies, the clock resets to that first moment. He cannot tell anyone what is happening. He cannot stop the knife that keeps finding her. A powerless kid with nothing but a useless phone and a trick he never asked for, forced to live through the same day until he gets it right. How many times does a person have to watch someone die before he figures out how to save her?
