Arata was raised to take over his noble house, not a throne. Then word arrives that the princess is fading, and his grandmother's old lie surfaces: she registered him as a girl at birth. With no other daughters left in the Hime clan, the fifteen year old boy is now the next in line. So he puts on women's robes and plays the part, waiting for someone better to turn up. That wait ends badly. Standing before Princess Kokuri, he watches her own guard, the twelve Shinsho, cut her down, and the murder gets pinned on him. He runs into the Kando forest, the place people enter and never leave the same. At that exact moment, in another world entirely, a Tokyo teenager named Arata Hinohara hears his name called from a alley and steps off his path. The two swap places. Hinohara wakes up in Amawakuni with a Hayagami in his hands and a power called Sho he never asked for. Now one Arata is a fugitive in a land that wants him dead, and the other is stuck in a school full of people who make his life hell. Companions gather, weapons with the power of gods get drawn, and nobody knows who the real killer was protecting. What happens when the boy who ran away finally has to come back?
