A long time ago a fisherman spotted a goddess bathing in the water and stole the robe she had left hanging in a pine tree. Without it she could not go home, so she stayed and became his wife. Years later she heard her own children singing a little song about the trick he had played on her. Sixteen candles, a family party, and Aya Mikage thinks it is just a birthday. Her grandfather has other plans for the evening: kill the girl. In her blood runs enough of the celestial maiden Ceres to turn her into the goddess herself, and the Mikage clan would rather see her dead than destroyed. Aya flips between being a schoolgirl and being something ancient that wants the whole family gone, and she has no say in when the switch happens. Yuuhi stays close to hold her together, but there is also Toya, quiet and strange, and he works for the grandfather who ordered her murder.
