Tatsumi leaves his village with his friends to earn money for home. The capital will fix everything, or so he thinks. First day there, someone lifts his wallet and he is broke, alone, no job. Then a kind noblewoman named Aria takes him in. That night, killers slip into her house. One of them is the same girl who robbed him. They call themselves Night Raid, and they say Aria is a monster who tortures people in her cellar. Tatsumi has to choose: the revolutionaries who just broke in, or the woman who gave him a bed. Night Raid kills for the Revolutionary Army, hunting the ministers and nobles who bleed the empire dry while a child emperor sits on the throne and Prime Minister Honest pockets everything. Tatsumi joins them. Now he faces cursed weapons, enemy assassins just as skilled as his new comrades, and the growing weight of every life he takes. Was Aria really what they said, and what happens to a boy who wanted to save one village but ends up soaked in blood for a whole country?
