Rinka waits tables part time while her dad sits at home without a job. Tokyo is just Tokyo, same as always, until a penguin crosses the sky. Not a balloon, not a drone. A penguin, in the air, flapping like it owns the place. She chases it to a rooftop and runs into goldfish drifting through the night, and her classmate Kyoutarou, who sees them too. Then one of the fish swims straight through her chest. She drops. When she comes to, walls are not walls anymore. She can walk through them. There is a catch, though: every time she uses the power, her hair goes white. Kyoutarou got something out of it as well, the ability to blink from one spot to another in an instant. Reluctantly, because what else are you supposed to do, Rinka starts using it, and the city starts calling her the White Girl, its new hero. But they are not the only ones who woke up different. Other espers are out there, and their plans are a lot less kind. Two kids with new tricks against people who have had practice. Can Rinka really keep a whole city safe when every fight costs her a little more than the last one?
