Somewhere in Japan there is a city built just for beastmen. A place where people with animal genes can finally stop hiding, walk the streets in their true shapes, live like anyone else. Anima City, ten years old and still figuring itself out. During the anniversary party, a girl named Michiru stumbles into the square. She is seventeen. She is also, until recently, an ordinary human, and now she has a tanuki's ears and a tanuki's tail, and no idea why. Then the square goes up in an explosion. A wolf named Shirou Ogami, who hates humans and seems like he cannot be hurt, steps out of the smoke. He protects beastmen. All of them. He is not thrilled about the tanuki girl tagging along. They chase whoever set the bomb, and the chase keeps circling back to Michiru. Her abilities do not match any beastman anyone has seen. Shirou starts asking questions she cannot answer. Where did she come from? What is she, exactly? And if she is something new, something between human and beastman, what does that make her for everyone else?
