Yuu Otosaka has a trick nobody else knows about. For five seconds at a time he can slide into someone else's body, and he uses it for exactly one thing: cheating. He hops into the brains of the class brainiacs during exams, coasts to the top, and lands a spot at a fancy high school. Easy. He already has the next step mapped out, a good university and a comfortable life for himself and his little sister. Then a girl walks up like she came out of thin air and pops the whole balloon. Nao Tomori, student council president at Hoshinoumi Academy, tells him people like him are a dime a dozen. She drags him into a transfer and a seat on her council, which is really a hunting party for kids with powers who use them badly. So now Yuu tracks down other ability users instead of scamming them, and every case digs up something messier than the last. The powers are not as simple as they look. Neither is Nao. And the more he learns, the less he understands why his own five seconds exist at all.
