She's a kid with nothing, scraping by in some corner of the British Empire at the tail end of the 1800s. Wisteria has no family, no prospects, and no reason to expect that to change. Then she stumbles onto Marbas: a beast, a monster to anyone who sees him, and just as alone as she is. He can tear through the hunters chasing him without breaking a sweat, yet his spirit has worn thin after too many years on the run. A girl and an immortal furry creature, both unwanted by the world that made them, decide to stop surviving separately. They travel through an Empire shared by humans and beastfolk, staying one step ahead of the people who want Marbas dead, looking for some quiet place to simply live. What they get instead is a long road with no guarantees, and the constant question of whether such a place exists for the two of them at all.
