1863, Edo. The shogunate is cracking, the streets are split between those who defend it and those who want it gone, and civil war is one bad day away. Out of nowhere two swordsmen appear. Not travelers. Not spies. Izuminokami Kanesada and Horikawa Kunihiro walked out of the future, and they carry the same names as the blades Toshizou Hijikata once swung. Their orders are simple: keep history exactly as it happened. The Retrograde Army has other plans. Then the two realize where they are standing. This is the Bakumatsu. The era their own master lived and died in. Every battle they fight drags them closer to the people they were forged for, and saving the timeline might mean letting the worst things happen anyway. More sword warriors join them, and together they chase the invaders through a country tearing itself apart. Blood, betrayal, choices nobody should have to make: the Retrograde Army knows exactly which moments to hit, and the duo has everything they care about riding on the answer. So when the history you are sworn to protect is the one that destroys the person you love, which side do you swing for?
