Yuuichi Kannami arrives at a quiet airbase to do one simple thing: fly combat missions for a private company. Peace has spread across the world, so wars are now outsourced, fought by corporations instead of countries, and pilots like him are paid to keep the whole arrangement running. He settles in, racks up kills, follows orders from commander Suito Kusanagi, and everything looks routine. Then the hints start dropping. Small ones at first. A name nobody says out loud. The previous pilot who sat in his seat, an ace they only call Teacher. And the strange fact that nobody on this base seems to get any older, including Kannami himself. He is a Kildren, engineered to stay a teenager forever, built with reflexes that make him lethal in the cockpit and a body that will never grow up. Between dogfights, he pushes closer to Kusanagi, and the closer he gets, the less the base makes sense. What actually happened to the pilot before him? Why does everyone keep dodging the question? And if he keeps digging, what exactly will he find waiting for him at Area 262?
