Claus and Lavie fly a two-seater vanship through the skies of Prester, running courier jobs and dreaming of outdoing their parents. She handles the navigation. He handles the stick. Simple work, mostly, nothing that should get two teenagers killed. Then a dying courier lands in their lap and begs them to finish his run. The cargo turns out to be a little girl named Alvis Hamilton, and the drop-off point is the Silvana, a warship nobody talks about out loud. What began as a delivery turns into a fight with the Guild, the outfit that controls every engine in the sky and decides when the nations below are allowed to bleed. Claudia fluid keeps the ships flying. The Guild decides who gets to use it. Between the warring states of Anatoray and Disith sits the Grand Stream, an air current that swallows full-size airships, and the only way through is a tiny vanship with two kids and a child on board. Can a courier who has never fired a shot really outfly the people who own the sky?
