2142. The planet is a wreck, the air is poison, and the only safe place left is Ecoban, a city that literally feeds on the pollution that killed the world. Sounds clever, until you notice who gets to breathe inside and who gets left at the gates. Survivors from the wasteland are only allowed in if they work. The elite who run the place stopped pretending that anyone outside matters. Out there in the dust lives Shua, who grew up with Jay and never stopped loving her. Small problem: Jay now wears an Ecoban security uniform, and the man close to her is Cade, her commander. Then Shua and Jay meet again after years apart, and it is not a warm reunion. He has become everything the system she swore to protect is built to keep out. She is the enemy, and she is also the girl from his childhood. So what does she do when the person she once knew stands on the wrong side of her rifle, and the man beside her expects her to pull the trigger?
