A distress call leads two engineers to a derelict station shaped like a rose. Inside they find a mansion, a piano still warm, and the voice of an opera singer who never got to say goodbye. Heintz and Miguel split up to search. That is their first mistake. Then a lab tech with a head cold swallows the wrong pills and turns into a walking chemical weapon. His flatulence drops everyone around him, and his bosses order him to walk to Tokyo headquarters. So begins a cross country hike with the army, the cops, and some very interested foreigners all chasing one guy who just wants to sit down. And in a city where every rooftop bristles with cannons, a boy practices loading drills at his desk and dreams of outranking his father. Nobody can name the enemy. Nobody asks. What happens when a boy finally gets to pull the lanyard?
