Japan lost the war and never really got back on its feet. The cities are rubble, the occupiers are still there, and the resistance has turned to bombs. Kazuki Fuse is a soldier in an elite counter-terror unit, the kind of man who follows orders and doesn't ask questions. Then one night in a tunnel, a girl carrying a satchel packed with explosives runs straight at him. He hesitates. She dies. Half of Tokyo goes up with her. His superiors don't thank him for it. They ship him back to the academy for re-evaluation, where a man with a scar on his record sits and waits. That's when the strange part starts. Fuse meets Kei, the dead girl's sister, and something between them catches fire anyway. A romance that shouldn't exist, built on top of a grave. The closer he gets to her, the more the ground shifts under his boots: his own unit is watching him, the higher-ups are playing a game he can't see the edges of, and every choice he makes drags him further from the man he thought he was. So what is he, exactly? A soldier who cracked, or something with sharper teeth that was always waiting underneath?
