Seigi Akatsuka is a middle school kid who can fight, trained by his grandfather, and he keeps stepping in when someone weaker gets pushed around. One night he chases off some punks bothering a homeless man. The guy thanks him with a rock. It burns. When Seigi opens his hand there is a strange tattoo seared into the palm, a spell crest, a weapon powerful enough that whole governments are quietly wrestling over who gets to own one. Then a girl with a matching tattoo shows up, and she is not there to compare notes. She wipes the floor with him. Every bit of martial arts his grandfather drilled into him means nothing against what she can do. Now Seigi is stuck in the middle of a hidden fight between the United States and the kingdom of Serinistan, holding something both sides want badly, and his only way out is to figure out how the crest actually works before someone takes it off his hand. Can a kid who has never been anyone special teach a weapon of mass destruction to obey him?
