The Ginei studio is coming down. Dust, empty soundstages, a wrecking crew waiting. Before it goes, director Genya Tachibana talks his way into one last interview with the woman he has adored since he was a kid: Chiyoko Fujiwara, the studio's biggest star, who walked away from it all thirty years ago and vanished into the mountains. She opens the door, and something strange happens. Genya and his grumpy cameraman Kyouji Ida sit down to record a nice commemorative piece, and suddenly they are not in the room anymore. They are inside her memories. Inside her movies too, which turn out to be the same thing. A chase through snow. A burning city. A face she has been looking for since she was a teenager, in every role, in every era, across decades of Japanese film history. Genya runs after her like a fan who never grew up, and Ida keeps asking the obvious question nobody wants to answer. Because she never stopped searching. Not when the cameras rolled, not when they stopped, not in seventy years. Is the man she is chasing even real anymore, or has she been running toward a memory that only exists on film?
