Mitsuki made a promise to a boy named Eichi before he left for America: she would become a singer, he would become an astronomer, and somehow her voice would find him. Two years of silence later, she still believes that. But her throat is giving out. Cancer. The doctors want to operate, and her grandmother, who cannot stand the sound of music in the house, is all for it. The surgery would save her life and take her voice in the same breath. So Mitsuki says no. Then two shinigami show up in her room. Meroko and Takuto, not exactly the grim reapers you would picture. They have news: one year left, give or take. Most kids would fall apart. Mitsuki gets to work. If a year is all she has, she will spend it on stage, chasing the one thing her body is trying to steal from her, with a pair of death spirits as her unlikely managers. Every song costs her. Every performance could be her last. What do you do with a voice that is fading, a boy who cannot hear it, and a countdown nobody else can see?
