Seven kids head off to summer camp and get snow in July instead. Then glowing devices drop out of nowhere, and the next thing they know, they wake up on an island that shouldn't exist. Strange creatures are waiting for them there, and those creatures have names, opinions, and very big appetites. Taichi, who never thinks twice about anything, ends up paired with Agumon, a orange dinosaur who would rather eat than fight. The others get partners too, and each kid slowly figures out that this world picked them on purpose. The Digimon call them the chosen ones. That sounds great until the kids learn what they're chosen for: something out there wants to wipe out the Digital World and Earth along with it. So now it's not just about finding a way home. The group has to travel a land where nothing works like it should, fight enemies they can't predict, and trust creatures they met five minutes ago. Taichi rushes in first, like always, and the others have to keep up or get left behind. Somewhere along the road home, the question stops being how they got here. It becomes whether they can protect two worlds at once, and what happens to the kids who fail.
