Louise can't cast a single spell without blowing something up. At Tristain Academy, where students wave wands and summon magical creatures, she's stuck with the nickname Louise the Zero. So when the second-year summoning ritual comes around, she's desperate to prove everyone wrong. She gets an explosion instead. Smoke everywhere, classmates coughing, and when it clears there's a boy standing in the circle. A regular Japanese schoolkid named Saito Hiraga, yanked straight out of his world. Here's the catch: the ritual can't be undone. Louise can't summon anyone else, and Saito can't go home. So he becomes her familiar, which in practice means doing her laundry and eating off the floor while she bosses him around. Then someone notices a strange brand burned into his hand, and it turns out to be the mark of Gandalfr, a legendary familiar with power nobody expected. Not bad for the girl who fails at everything. Now Saito has to figure out how to live in a world of nobles and magic while Louise keeps zapping him for every stupid thing he does. She acts like she hates him. He keeps getting dragged into fights and trouble anyway. And that brand on his hand? What is it actually for, and what happens when the people who recognize it come looking?
