Demonbane
Kurou Daijuuji is broke. He's a detective in Arkham City, and his luck is not exactly thriving. Then Ruri Hado, who runs a massive corporation, asks him to track down a spellbook. He says no. She mentions money. He says yes. The book hunt drops a girl in his path instead: Al, cute, chatty, and secretly a grimoire with serious power. They sign a contract, and suddenly Kurou can throw magic around. Al also wakes up Demonbane, a giant machine the Hado corporation keeps parked for emergencies, because something worse is already moving through the city. The Black Lodge wants a war, and now they have one. A detective with rent problems is piloting a deus machina against mechanical monsters, and the girl in his corner is technically a book. What happens when the contract starts asking for more than he agreed to give?
