A fire took everything from Shirou when he was small. His parents, his home, all of it. Then a man named Kiritsugu pulled him out of the flames and raised him as his own, filling the kid's head with one stubborn dream: become a hero of justice, protect the weak, save everyone. Shirou begged to learn magic. Turns out he's hopeless at almost every part of it. Then one night he stays late at school and walks straight into a fight between two people who should not exist. One of them nearly kills him. He survives by pure luck, and that same fighter comes back to finish the job. Backed into a corner, Shirou summons a knight in shining armor named Saber, and just like that he's drafted into the Fifth Holy Grail War. Seven mages, seven Servants, one wish-granting prize. Kill or be killed, and the rules don't leave much room for mercy. Now Shirou has to figure out where the line sits between saving people and taking lives, because the war keeps pushing him toward the second one. His father's ideals are starting to look like a death sentence. Can a boy who can barely cast a spell really become the hero he promised to be, or is he just the next name on the Grail's list?
