Half the world already belongs to Britannia. Japan does not even exist anymore on the maps: conquered, renamed Area 11, its people mocked as Elevens. Lelouch Lamperouge is a Britannian student at an academy for aristocrats, living in exile with his sister. A fallen prince playing at being ordinary. Then he stumbles into a firefight between rebel forces and imperial soldiers. Tanks roll in. Troops burn everything in their path. Cornered and seconds from death, Lelouch meets a green-haired girl who calls herself C.C. She gives him something called Geass: the power of absolute obedience. One command, and any person must obey. So he puts on a mask and becomes Zero, a vigilante nobody can identify, and turns the rebellion into his personal weapon against the empire that threw him away. Now he commands troops, outplays generals, and hunts down the family that cast him out. But every order he gives costs him something, and the people closest to him have no idea who he really is. How far can a boy go before the mask stops coming off?
