A tiny candy shop in the middle of nowhere has been in the Shikada family for nine generations. Kokonotsu wants nothing to do with it. He's got bigger plans, and they involve drawing shojo manga, not ringing up penny sweets for the neighborhood kids. His father keeps pushing the store on him anyway. Then one summer a girl walks in and turns everything sideways. Hotaru Shidare says her family runs a famous sweets company, and she's come to recruit Kokonotsu's dad, who apparently is a big deal among candy makers. Dad listens, nods, and drops his condition: he'll take the job only if Hotaru can get his son to inherit the shop. So now this odd girl with a serious sweet tooth is hanging around the counter every day, and she keeps pulling out some obscure candy and explaining why it matters. Kokonotsu just wants to sketch his manga. But how long can he keep saying no when every wrapper she opens comes with a story, and the store starts to feel less like a cage and more like something worth keeping?
