Tetsuo Takahashi looks like any other biology teacher until you catch him staring at the ceiling, wondering how a dullahan actually sleeps. He wrote his dissertation on demis, those half human, half monster beings who once hid from a world that wanted nothing to do with them. Problem: he had almost no one to study. Then he took a job at Shibasaki High and found four of them in the same building. Here is the catch. His students are not lab specimens. Hikari, a vampire, is loud and always hungry. Kyouko, a dullahan, carries her own head around and apologizes for it. Yuki, a snow woman, freezes the room when she gets nervous. And the succubus on staff, Sakie, can barely stand next to a man without wanting to run. Takahashi starts pulling them aside for casual chats, and the interviews turn into something warmer than research. He wanted facts about their bodies and their minds. What he gets instead are small daily disasters: a head that rolls under a desk, a cold snap in the middle of summer, a teacher hiding in the hallway. Slowly the distance between human and demi starts to look thinner than anyone told him. So when does curiosity stop being science and start being friendship?
