The sky is gone. What falls instead is dark ash, endless, and it eats through flesh on contact. So people sealed themselves away: thick suits, massive helmets with glass you can barely see through, and then down, deep underground, where the ash can't reach. That's where the kids in this story grow up. They've never felt rain on their skin. Never seen a real sky. The masks are just what a face looks like. But children don't stay small, and questions don't stay buried, and the world above is still up there, waiting. What happens when you're old enough to wonder if the suit is protection or just a cage?
