Brigadoon

Marin is thirteen, adopted, broke, and happy anyway. Then one morning the sky over the whole planet fills with a mirage, a mechanical city hanging up there like it has always belonged. It has not. From Brigadoon come the Monomakia, androids with one job: hunt Marin down. She runs. She hides in a shrine, grabs a blue bottle she finds there, and something comes out of it. A cyborg. Sword in one hand, gun in the other. Melan Blue says he will protect her with his life, and he will not explain why. He does not explain much of anything. Now Marin has to survive junior high in 1969 Japan while monsters tear up the streets, the cops want answers, the neighbors have opinions, and her family is quietly falling apart. She has no idea what Brigadoon wants from her. Melan will not say what his mission actually is. Can you trust someone who refuses to tell you who he is, especially when he is the only thing standing between you and the sky?
