Mato Kuroi walks into her first day of junior high and almost immediately locks eyes with Yomi Takanashi. They could not be more different. Mato is loud, naive, all impulse. Yomi carries herself like someone older, and at first she has no idea what to make of this girl. It does not matter. Within days they are inseparable, and Mato hands Yomi a little blue star charm for her phone, the twin of her own. A small thing. A promise, maybe. Then second year starts, the classes get split, and the two of them end up on opposite sides of a hallway. Mato falls in with Yuu Koutari from the basketball team, and somewhere in all that time she stops running into Yomi at all. Not avoiding her. Just not finding her. It is as if Yomi was never there. Meanwhile, in some other place, Black Rock Shooter is hunting the Dead Master, two girls with a bond that mirrors Mato and Yomi almost too closely, and the blue star might not be a charm at all. So what exactly happened to the girl who used to wait by the gate every morning?
