Shuuichi Nitori gets called the prettiest girl in class, and it stings every single time. He's a boy. His close friend Yoshino, all elbows and short hair, feels the same ache from the other side: everyone reads her as a girl, and she isn't one. The two of them trade clothes, trade secrets, and for a while that's enough. Then middle school starts. New building, new uniforms, new classmates to fool or not fool, and the old friendships start to creak under the weight. Yoshino shoots up and gets quieter. Shuuichi dares to walk outside dressed the way he wants, and the world does not shrug it off. Puberty arrives on schedule and ruins everything, and somewhere in the middle of it there's a first crush, a confession, and the slow realization that being honest costs something. Nobody in this show gets an easy answer, not the kids and not the adults circling them. So when the two of them finally stop hiding, who will still be standing next to them?
