Everyone at school thinks Mugi and Hanabi are the couple to envy. Good looks, easy smiles, always together. Nobody knows the smiles are fake. What actually holds them together is pain they can't say out loud: each of them is in love with somebody else. Hanabi has spent years carrying a torch for Narumi, the neighbor and childhood friend she grew up beside. Then he turns up as her homeroom teacher, and for one bright moment it feels like fate. That moment doesn't last. The music teacher, Akane, notices him too, and Hanabi gets to watch the two of them drift toward each other. Mugi's problem has a name as well, and it's the same one. Akane tutored him back in middle school, and he never got over her. He and Hanabi run into each other in a hallway, two lonely people recognizing the same ache in each other's eyes. So they make a deal. No love, no promises. They use each other's bodies as a stand-in for the person they actually want, a warm place to hide from the loneliness for a few hours at a time. It works, more or less, until it starts to not work at all. Can two people holding on to someone else ever really save each other from being alone?
