Ushio thinks his dad's stories about the family ancestor who pinned a demon to the temple altar with a legendary spear are total nonsense. Then he goes down to the basement and finds the demon. Right there. Impaled on the Beast Spear, exactly like the old man always said. The beast is Tora, a five hundred year old monster with a nasty reputation, and he wants out. He talks sweet. Ushio doesn't buy a word of it and keeps him sealed. That lasts until spirits swarm the town and start tearing at everyone he cares about. Now his only shot at saving them is the same creature he just refused to free, with the spear as the one thing keeping Tora from turning on him the second he slips. So Ushio pulls the weapon out and lets the monster loose. Tora fights, grumbles, and clearly wouldn't mind eating him later. The two of them stumble straight into a spirit world far more real and far more dangerous than any temple story ever suggested. Can a middle schooler really keep a demon like that on a leash, or is he the one being dragged along?
