A middle aged man with a strange illness that only calms down when someone laughs. That is Narumi Katou's whole life until a boy with an enormous suitcase crashes into him during a part time shift. The kid is Masaru Saiga, heir to a massive fortune after his father's death, and three people are already chasing him down the street. Narumi steps in to help and lands in a fight he cannot win, because the pursuers are not human at all. They are wooden puppets moving with impossible strength. Just as it looks hopeless, a white haired girl arrives out of nowhere and pulls another puppet from the suitcase, announcing she is Masaru's guardian and came all the way from France for this. Now three strangers with nothing in common are tangled up in an old story of love and betrayal, and in a war between people and puppets that has been going on far longer than anyone remembers. Narumi still needs someone to laugh, Masaru still has family who want him dead, and Shirogane clearly knows more than she is telling. So who is really pulling the strings here?
