Rogue demons jumping the Sanzou party on the road? Tuesday. So when the next ambush turns out to be plain humans, nobody knows what to say. Then along comes Hazel Grouse, a wandering priest from way out west, with a bodyguard the size of a house named Gaty Nene Hawk. Hazel brings people back from the dead. Grieving villages love him for it. There is just one detail: the risen come back with golden eyes. Exactly like the men who attacked the group. The priest's miracle starts to look less like a miracle and more like a scheme. The Sanzou crew are already sniffing around the edges of it, close to figuring out what he actually wants. But what do you do with a man who can undo death, when everyone he helps is too grateful to ask questions?
