At Grace Field House, the days blur together in the best way. Good food, clean clothes, a forest to run around in, and a woman the kids all call Mama who tucks them in at night. There are tests every morning, sure, but nobody minds. The only rule that really matters is simple: don't go past the gate. Emma, Norman and Ray are the sharpest of the bunch, the ones who always finish first and look out for the little ones. Then one night Emma and Norman learn something they were never supposed to see, and the whole place tilts. Every few months a child gets adopted and walks out that gate with a smile. Nobody ever writes back. Not one letter, not one visit. The three of them start counting the days, watching Mama's face, saying nothing to anyone. They have to keep playing happy while they figure a way out, and every move they make could tip her off. The house is warm, the doors are locked, and the people smiling at them might not be family at all. How do you save everyone when the person you trust most is the one keeping score?
